Michigan Capitals Girls Hockey

Michigan's oldest, active girls hockey association!

Our Goals:

Emphasize fun and teamwork at the highest level of competitive girls hockey

Offer each Michigan Capital player rewarding athletic and cultural experience

Popularize girls'/women's ice hockey as an exciting and demanding team sport

bullet

Stress academic achievement and develop leadership skills

Demonstrate that there is a competitive level of ice hockey for girls to play after age 12 to prepare them for college and the National Women's Team

bullet

Provide a forum to showcase the best female Michigan area players to Division I college coaches through participating in U.S. and Canadian tournaments

 

 

Our History:

Began in 1986 with one Pee Wee team; added a Midget team in 1987.  Grew from four teams in 1997 to five teams in 1998-1999 and eight teams for the 2000-2001 season.

Throughout the years, Michigan Capitals teams have consistently represented Michigan at the U.S. Women's National Championships in all divisions.

Over 30 former Michigan Capitals have played on Division I college varsity women's hockey teams.  Many have also played on Division III and Club level teams.

In 1998, our 12 & Under team won the SILVER medal at the National Championships in San Jose, California.

Michigan Capitals teams also participated in the National Championships in 2000 (Troy, Michigan) and 2002 (Anchorage, Alaska).

Former Capitals Shelley Looney was a member of the first U.S. Women's Olympic Team and won gold, silver, and bronze medals in Olympic competition.

Michigan's first 6 & Under and 8 & Under all girls teams were Capitals, established in 1998.
